We are 2 months deep into the 2008 Boston Red Sox schedule . A total of 55 Remy Scorecards have been filled out. While it may not be the gorilla in the room yet, it’s got to be a small monkey. So let us ask this, does Red Sox Nation have to start “considering” the Tampa Day Rays as a legitimate threat this season?
Let’s some go through some of the yeas and nays, shall we?

We have been MIA the past couple days. We’ve missed commenting on Gabe’s return, missed talking about Jon Lester’s no-hitter, and even missed mentioning how good Justin Masterson has looked in his two starts for the Red Sox. Let’s chalk it up to some pretty tense times in TheYawkeyWay.com office. You see, when the Celtics decide it will be fun to go seven games with Cleveland and then turn around on a days rest to face Detroit, agida tends to kicks into high gear. Writing took a back seat to popping Prilosec and screaming at the television set. We apologize.
Josh Beckett was filthy last night. Too bad it was Beckett’s cursing during the post-game. The Boston Red Sox are on a three game slide, and dropped out of first last night. Luckily, it’s a 3:05pm game today and Daniel Cabrera is on the mound.
Here are some numbers to chew on:
7-6 Twins. Papelbon draws deuces – 2 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 blown saves in his last 2 appearances. Do you know what we think? So what!
Maybe we are crazy, but here is why:
We are going to bite our lip. Everyone is talking about “him”. It’s here, - it’s here and its here. I know the other day we said we would talk about it more, and we will, but we are going to hold off on it right now. We are going to try and be the bigger man and not jump on “his” case. Well not today at least. We’ll refrain from complaining about the 10 errors already this season – compared to 19 all of last year.
1) Matsuzaka gets the win last night and improves to 5-0. Does a 5-0 record get any uglier looking that this though? He is walking an average of just under 4 a game – with 8 walks last night. Luckily, most of his walks last night came with 2 outs in the inning. He is averaging 105 pitches a game and has only reached 7 innings once (against Toronto April 30th).
On the bright side, he did only give up 2 hits and 1 run.

What can say about last night? The Red Sox’s hitting slump continued, as Toronto’s pitching looked very strong. You got a taste of why many had Toronto taking the division this year – Halladay, McGowan, and Burnett putting zeros on the scoreboard late into the game.
Besides the strangest call I have seen in a long time (balk call on Ryan’s last pitch of the game), there wasn’t too much to get excited about.
