Bad Coco, Very Bad!

WOW!

What an odd night last night. I mean honestly, can anyone think of a stranger night/day in Boston sports history? If you can think of any that can compare, post them, I’d love to hear. (Hint hint: Good way to get into our contest)

Let’s break it down in a somewhat chronological order:

  • Coco gets hit and a brawl breaks out in Fenway
  • Ellsbury goes to centerfield, replacing Crisp, and rolls on his right wrist. Initially everyone is thinking a broken wrist
  • Manny dishes out a Hogan-like backhand to Youkilis and starts a ruckus in the dugout
  • Manny is removed from the game after tweaking his hammy
  • Pierce pops his knee and has to be carried off the court, then “wheelchaired” into the locker room
  • Before it sinks in that the Celtics are finished without Pierce for the rest of the series, he runs back onto the floor and proceeds to carry the team in the 3rd quarter – on one leg
  • LA is threatening in the 4th quarter when KG makes his mark in Celtics finals history by dunking a rebound over Gasol to take Game 1

It was almost too much to digest in a 6+ hour time frame.

As the brawl in Fenway is unfolding, we at TheYawkeyWay.com are thinking, “Boy, was that a dumb move by Coco!”

The night before when Iwamura blocked 2nd base, Crisp spoke his piece. It should have ended there. The next time he gets on 1st he decides to steal 2nd, sliding cleats first, taking out Bartlett. Maddon ends up arguing with Crisp from the mound, and the snowball starts rolling down the hill.

Crisp then proceeds to fuel the fire with some taunting remarks to the media. You have to know Tampa is going to retaliating just based on the comments.

Fast forward to last night, you knew it was just a matter of time. Crisp DEFINITELY knew it was coming. Shields did the right thing – he threw low, right at the thigh. Take your base – the two day long tiff is over.

No. Crisp goes after Shields and the brawl begins.

Just a flat out dumb move by Crisp, in our opinion. But wait, Crisp isn’t done. He is back in front of the media last night calling Tampa a bunch of girls.

It definitely makes for an interesting rest of the season, but given Tampa’s pitching and the Red Sox’s refusal to give up first place, we can safely assume the remaining head-to-head match-ups would have been interesting to watch anyways.

What do you think? Let us know!

Coco Crisp has always been inferior. I mean…just look at his stats compared to a superior Crisp.

    Coco: 2 homeruns this year
Cookie: Spun off peanut butter and double chocolate crisp cereals.

Coco: Lifetime .278 BA over 7 major league seasons
Cookie: Providing over 9% of your daily carbs per serving since 1977.

The numbers speak for themselves. Can I have a DVD now?

I’ve always thought Coco Crisp was a bit of a nut. Ellsbury should be the full-time starter anyway, he and Pedroia are gonna lead the Sox into the future. Also, @El Duffo O Muerte, that post is hilarious.
